my walk around is a 18-200 VR and love it, you can save some cash too. (I have not looked at the new 18-300 but have heard good things.)

FYI
The 18-300 is heavy, but a good lens from all I have read

I have had no problems and only wish I had bought it sooner.
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/18-200mm-ii.htmI have been told that there is no noticeable difference between the first and second version if you are able to find the old one.

The difference in magnification between the 18 - 200 and 18 - 300 doesn't warrant the expense of the latter. Save your money. You can walk up on your subject or magnify it on the computer.
It's an excellent lens. Wide enough for landscapes and sharp enough for flowers. In the last photo of my son on the beach, you can even see birds flying in the background. Also has great bokeh, It's how you use it that counts. A few photos with the lens. PS the 18-70 is rated sharp

Either lens is great - had the 18-200 used as everyday lens. Had the D3, got the 28-300 when it released - great lens - my everyday lens now. I have other lens that I use for special purpose though.
fstop22,
May I ask what camera (D7000?) and what ap/ss for the flower shots (which are AWESOME)?
Thx
Yes the D7000 for camera. Both flowers shot F/16 Aperture priority, the camera chose 1/500 first and 1/250 shutter speed for second flower. Both in the same little garden pond, one was shaded the other sunny.

THX. is the frog a Costarican??
From what I can tell and see, you will be hard pressed to improve your IQ with any other zoom lens at any price .... You could improve your macro capability, or you could get a faster F-stop and thus theoretically improve your focusing in low light - but I do not think you can improve the basic IQ of that lens.
