I was looking for anyone who has used this software or its predecessor--X-5 is a new version. I have been a Lightroom 6 user for quite some time. Unfortunately, although I have a fairly fast Dell computer (i-7 processor, 16 GB Ram, 512 GB SSd), it runs Windows 8.1 and could not be updated to Windows 10. The monthly subscription version of Lightroom will only run on Windows 10. I want to wait to replace this computer until Windows 8.1 is no longer supported (a couple of more years.

Exposure X-5 has gotten some good online reviews and seems quite similar to Lightroom. Its earlier versions, in fact, were available only as a Lightroom plug-in. It is now full fledged photo processing software with a DAM.

According to Adobe, Creative Suite will run on Windows 8.1.

I had Alien Skin for years. I liked the approach with film emulations and generally for a few years back I thought is was pretty good. I upgraded (a little trippy) after trying the 30 day trial. I got the whole package wow their software for $99. Was interesting in the photo blowup.
Then during trial period virus took time from my computer time. I shoot a lot of video now. Some stills.
I have the Adobe package and they just raised my monthly rate to $52 from a discount deal of $29 monthly.
Nice time for Adobe to kick us. A good friend on Mac wants to use the older versions of the main Adobe
suite. He is not sure what they won't change. Apples new OS shift from 32 bit to 64 bit is going to impact at lot of users. I have not had the time to evaluate what Photoshop (which I use a lot) can do with this change.
So I haven't checked it out but Lightroom is used by photo pro's. And many here. I think Exposure X5 could work for you with how much control you have on a photo that you would have in LR. Suggest you use the 30 day trial.
Good luck. Hope this helps.

Could you point me to where they say that. I just spent time on their website and all I could find was that older versions of Creative Cloud will run on 8.1, but that the latest version will not. God knows, their website is less than clear. If you could give me a link to where you obtained your information, it would be much appreciated.

I will try. Give me some time to find it again.

You need Windows 10 to run the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud. You can run version 4.9 on earlier versions of Windows. I'm including a link to the system requirements to run Adobe Creative Cloud. I also converted the web page to a pdf file so that I could highlight the portion that applies to you.

Why can’t it be updated or Win 10? (It’s a BIG improvement over 8.1) - looks as if your HW is more than adequate.

That’s my thought exactly. It should just be a matter of finding the right Microsoft link.

If you check on the web, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free directly from Microsoft, I did not not that long ago with my laptop that I forgot to upgrade from 8.1 when the free upgrade was originally offered.ti took aw while but it worked.

I use X5 on an almost daily basis. It's fast and really good. DP Review just did a review of it. I've been using their software for 3 years or more. I highly recommend it. I'm running it on a MacMini late 2012 running Catalina with 16GB Ram ITB SSD.

Totally agree about 8.1. It was not one of Microsoft's better efforts.
There is an incompatibility between this particular Dell computer and Windows 10. Dell specifically says so on their website. It is a Dell Inspiron model 5520. Google it and you will see there are many people who have tried and failed. A few claim they succeeded but then they say various drivers won't work.

Despite that, I tried to do it twice when you could get the free upgrade. Both times the installation failed. I finally gave up. The reality is that the computer runs fine and is fast, despite the clunky OS. I will put up with it until Microsoft no longer supports 8.1.

See my response above. This particular Dell cannot be updated to 10 according to Dell and me (I tried twice without success).

See my response below. I wish it were so simple.
