A fence in our yard used to have roses and passion flowers, but mostly it has been consumed by a potato vine. Imagine my surprise when I found the passion flower in bloom in spite of the potato vine.

Great image.

It is always fun to discover something returning that I thought was lost or had died. Sometimes it is plants that I have forgotten that I had planted or plants that have showed up on their own.

Wow! Absolutely beautiful, Hugh, and what rich color and fine detail! Do you think this could be a clematis bloom? Just wondering...

It is a Clematis, not a Passiflora... I have some by my mailbox and I have Passionflower vines in my backyard. The Clematis have been in bloom for weeks, the Passiflora has sprouted but is a ways off from blooming. The common name of the Passionflower is Maypop.... They bloom in late May...That said, the capture is nice and sharp...

Here is a Passionflower....

Well I'll be. My wife and I have called them passion flowers for years. Now we know.

Thanks everybody, both for looking and for the new (to me) information!
