Lost my wife almost 2 years ago. Retired from U.S.Steel last spring. I have been raising grand children.
Became Purdue Master Gardener and have been taking care of backyard orchard. I originally had a Nikon E.M. 1. Sold it and later bought a Nikon D.S.L.R. 3500 with Kit lens and 35mm F1.8 prime lens. Right now doing
outdoor landscape and bird and flower photography. Considering a flash and lens for my next purchase.
I live in Valparaiso,Indiana.

Good luck to you. But, as soon as you feel comfortable with your new avocation I would advise moving up to a semi-pro version for your camera and save the Nikon 3500 for a backup. That camera is like a kid's beginners racket in Tennis.

Welcome to UHH, Clyde. I am sorry for your loss. Your grandchildren and your backyard orchard can provide a plentiful supply of opportunities to practice your photography. I'm certain you'll find your D3500 an easy device to learn. There are plenty of free videos online to help you along, including (today and tomorrow) some free videos on the Nikon website. Have fun!

Welcome to UHH Clyde. Sorry for your loss. Between your grandkids, gardening, and your new hobby of photography, you will have quite a bit of activity to keep you busy.

Good luck to you.

Sorry for your loss. Glad you're here! Glad you have grandchildren to help keep busy! Glad you found photography again! I broke in with a D3200 and now shoot with a D7100 but I'm really jonesing for a D500 now. We'd love to see some shots of your orchids, etc.
