So now that I know where the active dens are I watched them with no luck but good weather for a couple of days. Sighting both the adults and kits but I couldn't get a shot. Then yesterday I went to check on them again with the clouds dark and rain imminent. While still sitting in my truck facing the field one of the adults came right into view. My presence was not noticed and the fox was in full hunting mode but limping badly. I literally leaned out the truck window and tried to focus. I watched as the ears moved like radar as the fox stared into the shrubs, suddenly leaping and diving head first straight in. I only saw the tail for several moments and then he came out with his prize firmly in his jaws. Bad leg and all. Straight out of Discovery channel.
BTW the foxes can hear the shutter so now I am thinking mirrorless and more reach, don't tell the wife.

Cool. My icon, my American Foxhound. Don't ask what she would do to a fox!
