I do not have birds in my back yard but every day I get a visit from a Brown Basilisk.
Sony a9, Sony 200-600 mm lens at 600 mm. 1/800 sec. f6.3, ISO 800, Tracking-Flexible Spot Large, continuous auto focus, 20 fps. Topaz Photoshop, RAW converted to jpeg.
I was laying on the ground to get this shot.

Very handsome basilisk (and image), billnikon. And it appears he/she pretty much knows that's the case.

Somewhere I read that if you look into a basilisk's eyes, you turn to stone. Assuming you used either your Nikon's viewfinder or were in LiveView mode --which thus provided an 'interface' of sorts that allowed you to avoid looking into the critter's eyes so as not yourself turn to stone--, the question then becomes, did your camera become a rock? Either immediately after shooting Mr./Ms. Basi, or a maybe little while afterwards? Sure hope not.

Great shot, Bill. Is BB the reason that you have no birds around?
