Having to come back to digital I'm determined to print some images using print houses (not at home due to no darkroom) and I'm wondering; what print house and / or printing process yields a print that is of the same quality as a darkroom print AND has similar longevity?
I don't want an inkjet print that runs when water hits it, or fades in a year or something.
What am I looking for and what is a good print house that would provide it?
I think these guys have what you are looking for if you want wet process digital prints on a small selection of paper.
However, you can get better results with pigment inkjet and baryta paper. You may want to try these guys for that:
As far as fading and ink running, this is no longer a problem. I either have the print laminated or sprayed with a coating at the print lab, or when I print at home I will use one of the roll-on Breathing Color coatings, like Timeless Print Varnish, certified 100+ year archival by the Fine Art Trade Guild. Is 100 yrs enough for you?
