Once again I was digging into my library. This scene was taken when I went to Italy three years ago. Can't believe it is already three years. This should probably be in the PP thread, but FYI is usually where I hang out. So a before and after shot.

I prefer the first version because of the more complete story it tells and because I’m not a fan of the purple coloring in the second version.

Thanks for your feed back. Much appreciated. The fun part of photography is not everyone sees a photo through the same eyes.

Or lenses.

And my likes go to the first shot because of its storytelling.

I'll pick door number 2. Lively and interesting.

It’s funny how after so long and viewing this shot I kinda looked at as ho hum. But so far the two of you liked it over the PP work. I was going for a different mood. Seems so far no one is in the same mood.

I see you responded while I was answering Stephen’s comments. I was going for a more later in the day look. The plain blue sky did nothing for me. I could have replaced the sky, but I was wanting more. Thanks for chiming in .

I'm not sure what story you think the first version tells. To me it just has a distracting foreground. I would crop out the foreground and leave the photo as is. I prefer minimal post-processing.

As I mentioned previously I found the orginal to be ho hum. PP usually comes down to a personal preference. If I went on the minimal end of the scale, a simple sky replacement ( or maybe not) and cropping the foreground may have been more to your liking.
Thanks for your feedback. Always happy to read everyone's POV.

I don’t usually use the worlds “Fun” and “Photoshop” in the same sentence. LOL. But that is me.

FYI - The first image with the blue sky is labeled “After” but it appears to me to be the original.

Those two images tell completely different stories so it is not a matter of either/or or which is better. They each tell a unique story so the question is what story do you want to tell? And nobody says you can’t tell multiple stories with one image.

I like the blue sky version because of the dichotomy between the crowded town circle, and the empty seats.

I experience the 2nd one, with the “rays” as a reminder of the Salvation.

Technically, IMHO - the 2nd one is a little too pink and purple, (viewed on my iPAD with True-Tone disabled). But otherwise it is a good composition and like I said it tells a story and that is the whole point.

Kudos on both images.

PS - I like both does that mean I am “skitzoid”?

That made me laugh. It always amazes me how every person viewing am image came come away with something different. I personally favored the second one. Good thing I did favor it, since it is my PP work. LOL
The first one with the monotoned blue sky leaves me wanting. . Just doesn't do it for me. I much prefer some clouds in my shots. You are right I labeled them wrong. I can't believe I made a mistake no dinner for me tonight.
I may have gone overboard with the colors, I something tend to go in that direction. But it all comes down to wanting to push the envelope in learning PS. And sometimes the envelope may break.
Thanks for weighing in on this thread.

I am glad you laughed.

It is your art and you should do with it what you like.

Re liking the PS work. Very good! It’s good to like the work you do.

There have been times I did not like the work I have done.   😡 I have found this can happen if I let the work “dry”, I meant for it to sit 24 hours or more , then I review it. Obviously I don’t share when that happens. I also try to learn what I did wrong so as not to repeat it. Various success on that.

I like the crop in no. 2 and I like the rays in the sky. Not quite sure where they might be coming from; but that is not a deal breaker. The purple is not to my taste; but that is completely subjective.
