Great comment. Not sure how well this will show difference but here is shot of same flower, same camera settings, a little less light, and not focus stacked (single shot).

I also don’t think the focus stacked image was sent in original size, sorry, here is maybe better quality image of first one (focus stacked).
Frankly, your second shot looks far better than the first, thanks to the lighting on it not being so horribly contrasty. This is something that needs to be noticed when taking close up shots like this, as that overly bright highlight area overshadows (pun intended) the lower petals in the shadow.
I assume that by posting this in the 'Main Photography Discussion' you are looking for discussion regarding the image.
For me, whether focus stacked or not a greater concern is the lighting and framing. When framing try and ensure there are not distracting objects present and shoot flowers in non harsh light like your second image gives a far more pleasing result.
