Although I'm keeping busy I'm not currently doing much that would interest our pp section members - unless you like jigsaws (we all know someone that does, don't we?). This is how I received a glass negative through the post. It was very poorly wrapped and both negs in the pack were smashed. I was annoyed as I'd ask the seller to protect them well and this one is quite unique, I've not seen another as early. It shows Swanage Gaol (aka the Blind House due to the lack of windows) residing in the local council yard. The panel above the door reads 'Erected For the Prevention of Vice and Immorality By the Friends of Religion and Good Order A.D.1803'. The image is likely to be taken in 1906. Apparently anyone causing a nuisance was slung inside for a night or two before being dragged in front of the local beak. Children amused themselves throwing stones at the door, just to ensure the incumbent didn't feel lonely! The gaol had been moved a couple of times before arriving in the council yard and is still in this position today, although the yard is now a more pleasant thoroughfare behind the council's offices.
Anyway, to get to the pp work, I scanned the pieces and reassembled them with the aid of Photoshop, quite successfully I think. It took a while, but nobody's going anywhere are they? Has anyone else undertaken this sort of restoration and, if so, do you have any tips?
Excellent work. I looked to see if I could detect any of the joins and I couldn't.
Great job! Ain't Photoshop great?(and fun too)
That looks fantastic, Dave. What a great way to spend a few hours.

You did a splendid job. Thanks for posting. Don't you love the dedication! What was the local beak?
