Last September, a couple of months after my wife passed away, I realized I needed to get away for awhile. So, I ran away from home. Some of the hogs were nice enough to help me with my travel spots, and I took off for a couple of weeks of isolation and photography. First stop was in South Dakota at the Badlands. From there to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. Next was Colorado National Monument, and then on to Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. At that point I was ready to start the trip home, so I kept heading south because I had to see Monument Valley. I was able to get some shots of some amazing places, and it convinced me to run away from home again later this year. I’m now in the planning process of mapping out the trip. There is a highway (US Highway 191) that runs from the Canadian border in MT to the Mexican border in AZ. I’m hoping to make that trip in September as long as the travel and visiting restrictions are lifted. I’ve never been to Yellowstone or Grand Teton or Jackson Hole. And I want to spend a couple of days at Monument Valley and several other spots along the way. My last trip I stayed in hotels. This year I plan on mixing hotel stays with some car camping and bought a new SUV to help with that. Thanks for listening and viewing my photos.

I'm sorry for your loss and glad you are on the road feeling positive about traveling. Yellowstone is a must for US travelers but for sure beauty, the Tetons is second to none. You will love that trip. I'm not sure how close you will be to Dinosaur National Monument but you may want to put that on your list. It is near the Utah and Montana border. There is a research building there that houses an actual dig where bones are actively being excavated. (at least that was so some 20 years ago). If you have any interest in such things.

Depending on when Yellowstone is always incredibly crowded, and once travel restrictions are lifted, will be even more so. Make your trip plans on accommodation availability; Yellowstone would be an ideal place to car camp in one of the numerous campgrounds. I drove the same route in October from Jackson north to Cody, Wy and the trip was beautiful.

Once you get to Arizona, and 191 crosses I-10, take the detour to Hwy 80 in Benson and go to Tombstone and Bisbee.

I've used a great web site called roadtrip.com to build awesome routes with points of interest, campgrounds, hotels, etc, etc.
