Gulf fritillary

My wife, a part of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Master Naturalist program, has populated our backyard with a pollinator garden and native plants. The purple passionflower is a pollinator plant that attracts the Gulf fritillary, Agraulis vanillae (Linnaeus). I missed the butterflies this morning but caught some of the caterpillars this afternoon.

Shot with an AF-S micro Nikkor 85 mm with various shutter speeds as aperture priority was set to f22.

Nice one, we have milkweed plants to attract monarchs.

Excellent download and I have some of the blue and also purple passion flowers; Now if I can only coach the gulf fritillary just a little farther north!
