Due to the strong political slant given to the previous thread I asked the admin to simply delete it.
I will report all political comments (and reaction to them) as they happen in this new thread.

Getting a check appears to be a hit and miss more than anything. Some will, some will not and it is not related to paying taxes but to the way you filed it.

In our case by example we filed through a third party and when we verified the status... The IRS did not know us!!! We corrected the issue on line...

So, go the IRS web site and search for the link. I am not posting it because I do not want this to be moved but then again the last time I told folks to look for a link on line* it was anyway...

Added - from the previous thread -
The site has crashed a couple of time due to the number of connections. Be patient but mostly, try to connect in wee hours of the morning or after midnight. (Eastern time)

When you access the site it will ask you for financial information. The site is protected so there is no worries unless you think it is an overreach. Then it is your choice to wait for a long time or miss-out.

If you filed electronically and had the refund direct deposited to your bank account, then the IRS has the information it needs. If you filed electronically or by paper and opted for a paper check, then that is what should happen with the stimulus payment. My wife and I have filed electronically for years. Our stimulus payments hit our bank account yesterday.

Our daughter received hers yesterday {she is an out-of-work retail worker and desperately needed the money}, and my wife tells me that ours hit our account also {we are retired and had no immediate need}

And we are waiting for ours....

But then again, there is no need for us either. This situation has not touched us at all other than the restrictions. Still, if and when we get t we will try to put it to good use.

Same here, and it happened to be the same day as my SS deposit. It was like hitting Lotto. Well, maybe not quite.

I file through Turbo Tax and always have to pay, I took the delayed payment this year, so there is little exception of ever seeing any payment.

I have a number of friends that received their check to their banks. I filed using turbo tax and paid taxes this year. But I go through a credit union. Is a credit union the same as a bank in this case?

I tried getting info from the site and had a problem. I think it may be related to what happened on my taxes this year. I broke even. Owed nothin, got nothing back. -0- On the site it asks what you had to do: get a refund or owe. Then it asks how much. No other options. In my case, I couldn't answer this question. In years past I have gotten a small refund and I think one year I owed a little. My taxes are filed electronically. I live in a retirement community and AARP does my taxes and files them for me. I know they did it as I was owed a $40 refund from the state and I got that. In any event my banking information has not changed in years. Do I qualify?

Link to the IRS site.

To all:
- No one can answer your questions regarding your taxes unless one is a tax expert.
- The issue is not if you had a refund or not but how you paid your taxes and how you received your refund.
- Use the link posted to verify that the IRS has your information. It does not do anything else.

According to the known information:
- To get a check you must earn less than 75k per person or 150k per couple.
- It does not matter where the income comes from.
- If you earn more you will get less and it drops to 0 if you earn more than 100k per person.
- If you have kids you get an additional $500.00 per child. I do not know the age limits I assume 21.

Yes, it’s the same. We use a credit union only and our stimulus was there on the 15th.

I always have to pay also. When I use the Get My Payment option and put in the required info, I get a response that "eligibility cannot be determined." I do meet all the requirements listed to receive the $1200. I discovered through the Q&A section that the IRS will not use the banking info that was utilized to make direct tax payments:

"The account information used to make an electronic payment to the IRS cannot be used as the account information for the direct deposit of your payment. If we do not have bank account information for you and your payment has not been processed yet, Get My Payment will allow you to submit your bank account information once you have properly verified your identity so that you can get your EIP via direct deposit. Otherwise, we will mail your payment to address we have on file for you."

Get My Payment does not include any options to input my banking data. I am blessed in that I don't need this stimulus money, so I'll wait and see what happens. . .
