Changing Adobe Premiere Pro pointers

First, let me point out that when I did a search for "Premiere Pro" the handful of quesiton sthat have been posted were all to this forum, not post-processing - so here I go...

I have worked on a number of projects in Premiere Pro, where I am matching hundreds of slides that I scanned to an audio tape of a narrator. The slide and audio files are all located at the server in the office.

Now, being stuck at home, I discovered that one of the folks there got remote access to the server. He downloaded a fresh set of slides and audio files, and I am using those to make a completely new project - that's fine.

But my question has to do with the possibility of changing the project parameters such that it "points" to the proper folders on the server when the time comes that I can return to the office (or, conversely, change the pointers such that I can pull files on a project already in work, load them on my local drive, and work on them).

SInce the project file, much like Lightroom's catalog, does not copy each audio and video file into the local machine but just points to wherever they are located, I was hoping there is some way in Premiere Pro to do what is relatively simple in LR - change the desired target location to whih the project "points".

TIA for any suggestions!

thanks for the effort, but that does not address what I am asking. Nothing I have found online has. Thus my asking here.

In LR, of course, you can move folders from within the program and LR will make the associated changes in the Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer.

I see no way to do that in Premiere Pro, but in essence that it what I am trying to do. If I download from the server the image and audio files as well as the project file, opening the project will, I have to guess, throw an error saying that "the files at server/folder/subfolder/blah/blah/blah cannot be found. WHich of course is true, since now those image and audio files will be on my home computer's local disk.

So my question is - is there a way to get that project to "re-point" itself to my local disk folder?

Bins have absolutely zero to do with any of that.

You are looking at asset management. Nothing will 'guess' where the stuff is. You must do it manually, using the bins. Bins on the other hand can be moved (using the program) as they will keep the assets in it.

Well then I guess I'm toast - the Bin's options are greyed out...

And I'm ceratin there were no bins set up on the older projects at the office.

I'm referring to PPRO 1.0 - CS6 on Windows... from memory.

1. When you launch the program and it can't fine the media, it will interrogate you... "Where is the File xyz.avi" etc? This is the first time you can point each media type to a new folder location. Only do it once per media type (wav, avi, bmp, etc.). If it's working smart it will find all the others. If not, tell it to forget the rest and just load the program. Save the project to a unique name and reload the same project. This time it may load all the similar media types.

2. The other place you can "Point an item in a virtual BIN to a new folder location is by right clicking on any bin file and selecting "LINK MEDIA". Any unlinked lost media should have a different icon (no speaker over a film strip) The Media type column will show "OFFLINE". It is very common to need to do this when changing external drives or swapping low-rez proxies for Hi-rez footage.
