Cattle wallow in it, people use it as a lavatory then wash in it. Parasites abound.
They have a pump that provides clean drinking water from a deep well. But they have always bathed in this lagoon, they like to fully immerse themselves.
It does look idyllic. I like the photo; but after your description, I think I would prefer to wash up somewhere else.
