Daffodil - Experiments with Camera Tethering

I have been experimenting with camera tethering when shooting macro and close up photos.

I have tried several options using a laptop, tablet and field monitor (Feeworld 5.5) all can work in the right situation. The laptop is easy to use in the studio but outside it is too big an cumbersome. When working outside in bright sunlight the challenge is even bigger.

With my PenF, I have use OIshare software which allows the camera to connect to my android tablet via WiFI. ( some Olympus cameras can connect via bluetooth) The Tablet Screen allows for touch screen focusing of the camera but many camera functions cannot be changed while connected. The camera screen and the tablet screen can be challenging in bright sunlight. PC screens have the same issue. OI Share appears to lose contact with the camera at times. The Tablet and Camera are most often within 18 in of each other. Helicon Remote can be used with my Nikon Camera is a similar way but is wired to the camera.

The field monitor offers the best visibility in sunlight. (There are monitors brighter than mine) Usually the monitor is not mounted directly to the camera and I just hold it in my hand when the camera is tripod mounted. The monitor does have focus peaking and zebra stripes for over exposure. For the Olympus camera it seems that the camera screen can no longer be used for focusing and does not have the usual information displayed. The monitor screen has all information displayed. All camera functions can be changed in the usual manner. A field monitor can be used with any camera having HDMI output.

With my PenF I use a MeFoto RoadTrip tripod with a short post ( I have the long one too) that allows the camera to be only about 6 in off the ground (the height of the ball head).

Attached is a recent photo with the Pen F set-up.
