The stores we frequent seem to have run out of squirrel food. They have plenty of bird food, but the level in our bird feeder has been going down slowly, so I have decided to not buy any more animal feed this season. We had enough peanuts and sunflower seeds to last two more days, but after I filled the squirrel feeder yesterday, I had to wait and wait to see any squirrels - but I did see lots of birds eating the favored peanuts and then some of the sunflower seeds.
Blue Jays are always first in line.
Most female birds are brown and undistinguishable
Grackles are distinguishable by the eyes even if weather is too 'blah' for the necks to shimmer much; I think this is a female - the males are darker.
Redwing Blackbird male even though the wing has little markings

Wonderful photos.
Thank you for your comments.
I have to admit it requires some patience. I probably sat watching this feeder for an hour to get these pictures - only after my wife called me to dinner did the first squirrel finally come.
Nice set. I believe #2 is a European Staring. Seeing them around here, just a little north of you.

I’m afraid all the brown birds look the same to me, but I do appreciate suggestions from others.
