Hi Group,

Several days ago I reported a periodic "blur problem" with my fireTV stick. Some of you offered suggestions to fix the problem. I finally eliminated the wireless option and direct wired the "stick" into my modem using a $15.00 dongle and some cat5 cable. Even though I had "strong" wireless signal the direct connection to the modem seems to have fixed the problem. Everything has been perfect since making the change. My thanks to all of you who offered suggestions. I checked them all. Take care & ...

Curious. What model Firestick were you able to hard wire and how did you do it? I have 3 fire sticks and none have an Ethernet port.

By “modem” do you mean the cable box directly wired to the TV or the modem wired to secure internet service?

Try altering the broadcast channel of your wireless router. You may find a better signal without interference from competing devices or even from your neighbors' wifi routers. You should be able to login as "admin" to your wireless router from a web browser by putting 192.168.1.1 in the browser address bar and then entering your router's password. Once logged in, the router control panel with its options should be displayed to you. Check the help files from your router manufacturer website for exact guidance.

Of course, there is no guarantee that this will solve your wireless signal problem but it did work for me. Good Luck.

If he used Cat5, he plugged the FireStick into the router. The router handles network traffic (wired and wifi) and the modem converts the signal back and forth to the necessary parameters to transmit.

Hi group,
My Internet modem is from the phone company but I used to have one from the CATV company and it works the same. My modem can be used wireless (WIFI) or wired via 4 ethernet ports. My TV stick is a fireTV stick (the newer one with audio adjustment and on/off button). To wire ethernet into the fireTV stick I purchased a "dongle" from eBay (or Amazon) like this one - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazon-Ethernet-Adapter-for-all-new-Amazon-Fire-TV-Devices-and-Fire-TV-Stick/333119795268?epid=8023773142&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item4d8f7cb044:g:24MAAOSwZ2ZeeCxs&enc=AQAEAAACYBPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qX%2Bi5EXdV1E3HbCh%2B9RG94h6K06HXsMmw70kqB73xxaMlfSSt6SDQC0caT%2BsgsQot6GZ4woHU7%2F0F%2FHd65MRvT7JDl5uXwJa2ruwm9VjjPt9H7A9ULX6%2Bk95uRsnnt%2Fh6vIHTWsUzYc5LE8W3KBCtCmzLAjvk5OKxXzAtRtnVXnuHwMmkPqrq5egLigmswN53exHFCNauiIek3YVz%2Fe3hS6ALfUUxpWiCN3Ou6FJLc5xhTovnpKWHMXMnB3%2B2FId1cYgfTqyJMDZKzvXjOWiuK3wv2hQhTd1riE06YxvVppUsM%2FlmzFb7%2FjhqBTY6lf%2B8hL06Pmmeg3915hyscuJC3m6vEdkady%2FSIvvBR6jHEbS6WBohXXY%2BnbsiG75zg7fJBQOdpMwZfeiWoR70M0xNZPigeNFd2%2BS99JqU8ZAR2ojMMnuV2gYv%2FToNwaJUCYZE1TUfWdEBj4ifaW15LyQ0ErYGzBZnK7%2FDxrUz6BhcPcrcnaZDrWJRwqutv8QtU9eXn8rnNdoxvhQa7fs6MhVrxZZ8GD0VoBNIERwOppSTJBNbisu4mw4ImVV1IZjgDj%2FrW34gEVWi41v13DOnYIo60nv%2BLIisB3So9xwfhf0vqPFoX8ezrA9FTf2l6iz1XeJ9T6zuLFD10llzqcvsSzDvaUsk2xQ9kf8nhfa28wq%2FLxqGSBV4oIPGrbiGS%2BSu3kvsbV2cQSqWJ8cXunSp3KrvHfr%2BS5xFrKA%2B6CQlG48Lvxd5PAJrf%2BOyCzh463EDiSvqkD8v9UZfl3ehlubxYe1Luh&checksum=3331197952683bff66f232af42788d8eae6e72ea44d7. To use the dongle, unplug the power supply cord from the "stick," plug the dongle into it, and plug the power supply into the dongle. There is an additional ethernet plugin next to the power port. I had to run a cat5 ethernet cable from the modem to the TV and in my case, it wasn't a big deal but it may not be an option for everyone. It sure fixed my problem. Take care & ...

Occasionally, either Fire or Roku gives me a less than perfect picture, but I think that's because of the cable. Sometimes, I get a message telling me to try later. My bill just went up $10.

I have both Fire and Roku sticks, and when one has trouble, I switch to the other. Fire will not be able to do anything, but Roku is perfect. Or vice versa. For the low cost of each, I'm glad I have both. I was going to make a separate post about this, but I don't have to now.

I had issues with my Firestick until I moved my wifi booster, Alexa and BT plug further from the TV. Suspect they were all on the same circuit.

It's too bad that wired Ethernet ports have been forsaken on so many devices nowadays.....streaming devices (Roku and Amazon), printers, laptop computers.....

Used to be that wireless was what you used if wired was not available or you NEEDED portability. Such is the way of "progress". Or, saving a few cents on manufacturing cost.

My bill for Dish Satellite TV went up at the first of the year making it over $100/mo. So I signed up with YouTube TV for less than half the price. I don't get the hundreds of channels that I'll never watch but do get channels I want plus other channels that would cost extra with Dish, i.e., Smithsonian Channel, Turner Classic Movies and a couple others. And YouTube TV includes the local channels that Dish charged an extra $12/mo.

BTW, did I mention with YouTube TV I don't have to go outside and knock the snow off the dish? And I can watch YouTube TV on any of my electronic devices: TV, desktop computer, laptop, tablet and cell phone. Anything that will receive a WiFi signal. Now as long as my modem or router don't crap out . . .
