If you have WiFi at home get one able to be part of a WiFi ring.

If you have a smart TV many have options for displaying pictures. Just FYI.

I have really good luck with NIX frames.

From my own experience, I'd recommend the NIX Advance- 15 inch Digital Photo & HD Video (720p) Frame with Motion Sensor & 8GB Memory - X15D

You'll have to investigate whether this model is current, mine is from 2018. I have it on the kitchen counter, running 24x7 with about 9000 images, from 35mm scans in the 80s through images from last month.

Read all the reviews of any candidate frame. The NIX above is my third frame over the past 8ish years. They run just fine until they don't. It seems these are pretty cheap to put together, and no matter how much I like one model / brand, when I come back searching for a new replacement, that entire brand seems to have disappeared. NIX seems to have been around a bit longer than my other two.

I use a LR collection where I drop images into the collection to be added to the frame. I then created a LR Export preset that matches the pixel resolution of the frame size and run a mass-export whenever I want to refresh the frame, as I add / remove / re-edit images and want to pick up those changes. The images display based on shooting date and at 9000+ at 5-secs per image, it's essentially 'random' whenever I walk by and pause to see what is being displayed. Pick landscape images to match the landscape orientation of the frame.

My original frame has recently started locking up on a picture and will not continue the slide show. I've tried virtually everything to get it to quit stopping from new memory cards to only a few photos, etc. Anyway, it must be in the firmware of the frame and I am now looking for a replacement.

With that said, I have been surprised to find that virtually every frame now offered has an aspect ratio of either 16X9 or 4X3 and the vast majority of my photos are 3X2. This makes me wonder how the 3X2 photos will be displayed as I really want them displayed as is, rather than stretched to fit or enlarged and cropped. I guess "picture boxed" might be the best option even though it would not fill the entire screen, but I'd really rather have a new frame made to handle the 3X2 aspect ratio. Does anyone know how this is commonly handled on these different screen sizes or where I might find a decent frame that is set up with a screen made for the 3X2 aspect ratio?

Your 3x2 images should display fine, but you might need to consider the display options of the specific model and don't select a version that 'crops' or 'stretches' the original image to the dimension of the frame. Limiting your images to landscape orientation works best for landscape oriented frames.

I guess that's my problem in that the product write ups don't seem to give any information about display or menu options. I'd still rather have a 3X2 screen to start with, but apparently that's no longer an option. I guess I could live with a "picture boxed" view to keep my photos as is, but I'm still not sure if that option is available or how it actually looks and would appreciate any feedback as to a particular frame that handles this well. Thanks for the feedback!

We received a Nix frame as a gift. I must say it is excellent. We have it on the low wall dividing the kitchen and family room showing our safari photos. We often just stop and watch it while working on the counter. It is full HD and programmable for start and stop time. In addition it has a remote that stores magnetically on the back of the frame and can accept image files in multiple folders. It is so much better than one we had 10 years ago.

I have an old tablet that I got for a project. When the project was done the tablet was surplus, so I just propped it up on a table and watched the screen saver, which I loaded with family photos.

I don't really care for the dinky 8" screen. I have a desktop computer with two 24" monitors. Have been toying with going to a third monitor (but I need a larger desk first). If I get to that point, I'll take an old computer and one of the 24" monitors and run a slide show on that. If I can afford a desk, I can afford to buy two moniitors instead of only one. Maybe even three monitors so they're all the same.

Amazon says it will mix stills and video clips in the same show! The last time I looked for a frame I couldn't find one that would do that.

I second (or third or fourth) getting NIX picture frame. I have the 10" non-WiFi NIX frame, have stored about 800 pictures on the supplied USB thumbdrive in different directories based on the topic, showing images at 5 seconds each, with a 5 minute auto-shutoff if no people motion detected. The quality of the images on this frame is wonderful.

I reduced the size of each original image to 2560 x 1600 (2560 on the long edge) before putting onto the thumbdrive, with no loss of resolution since the NIX resolution is so good. You could leave the original image size, and NIX will reduce accordingly for any bigger size...but why waste space on the thumbdrive?

I also have set the auto play from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. So, at night it doesn't play, and saves electricity when no one is there to see the images.

I have stored a few videos on the thumbdrive, but I have shut off the automatic viewing of them. The video is OK when it does play, but the sound is terrible from such a little bitty speaker.

Some folks like larger, some smaller frame, but 10" is a good in-between for me. Good luck.

Good info. I've had several, the bigger size the better. Never paid anywhere near the OP's budget. I get them at garage sales.

Get a base model or used iPad and put some velcro on the back of it, or make a frame for it to slide into. It doubles as a couple of million other tools, when you get bored with the travel photos.
