No point other than to reflect the ongoing virus in comparison with other known causes of death. I am placing no political agenda whatsoever which is why I did not start it in The Attic. Can't a chart be posted that is actually pretty clear in its numbers without there having to be some point to be made? Aren't the numbers themselves The Point?
Have a wonderful day my friend,
Dennis

Fair enough. It does add perspective; but it doesnβt make our current problem any less pressing.
Have a great day and weekend too.

Well of course it doesn't make the problem any less pressing. I am one hell of a guy and darn near perfect in every way but I am not THAT good.
I posted the numbers maybe so that people like those here on the UHH forum, not The Attic, would look at those numbers and see that the sky is NOT falling, all may not be right with the world but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Already the death rate in many places is falling, the economy is starting to look better, we as a people are at least looking at a brighter future. Considering our past, world wide, we have been through worse and yet here we are still going strong. While I posted it at first just for the numbers in answering your question it came clear to me that the above is why I am posting these numbers.
There is going to be much rejoicing and hopefully soon as the world beats this virus. Will we be better prepared for the next one? Honestly I doubt it. In some ways we will be prepared but as for a cure then, NO, we will not be. That takes time. But we will be farther ahead each time because of the last time.

It's reassuring to see that so many non contagious things that people actually can do something about are killing more people than this nasty virus. Maybe when this is over, the powers that be can spend more time concentrating on fixing these other problems.

With due respect what the hell are you talking about? Can you be more specific?
Dennis
I don't know about "the point". But the message, for me anyway, is that indeed the sky is NOT falling! Thanks for the post!

Welcome. That is what the numbers signified to me. Even the normal flu has killed more people than the new virus. And yet the world seems to be going bonkers in a negative direction over it while forgetting the flu kills in these numbers every year.
People talk about being prepared for next time but other than flu shots we donβt seem to prepare at all.

A point to ponder, is the flu virus spreading at the same rate at this new virus? Are there proven antibiotics in place for this new pandemic as there is for the flu? Most, (83%) die from the flu because they are older and don't bother getting vaccinated. This new varmint is going full bore to attack us on all fronts and at all ages. As a fellow retired CPO I would like to lend credence to your post but that endeavor is out of my moral reach. Aside from all that, got any old Goat Locker sea stories to share? Best you and yours!

I could be more specific, but what fun would that be.
I guess one needs an open mind to understand what the hell I'm talking about. Currently the number one global issue is the Covid-19 pandemic. Eventually the corona-virus issue will evolve into a non-issue. When this happens, maybe things like deaths from malaria, suicide, traffic fatalities, HIV, alcohol, smoking, cancer (does that include lung cancer as a result of smoking?), hunger and abortion, will become major issues to be addressed like covid-19 has been. No I'm not talking about everyone staying home and closing schools and non-essential businesses. I'm talking about people and governments getting involved to make automobiles safer and find a cure for cancer and put an end to hunger and smoking and stuff like that. Many politicians don't want to touch some of these issues because it could have a negative effect on their endless need to get reelected.
