Called to cancel an upcoming dental appointment.
I got a message, "Closed 'til further notice".
Since they didn't give notice they were closing, I wonder if they will notify folks when they reopen.

Hey, my dentist started a root canal but has not finished or put a new crown on yet. And seems to have bugged out on me. Not happy.

Wow, I don't think they were given a choice, but I certainly think a root canal procedure should have been completed before shutting down. That would be like leaving you open in the middle of a surgical procedure. Don't move now, we'll get back to you. I have a new kitten that was scheduled to be fixed and my Vet canceled that until further notice. I think all of this is the result of the shortages on masks and other safety equipment. Good luck on your problem.

Bill, we’re in NJ and about 2 weeks ago received a blanket email from our dentist that their practice was closing down until further notice as far as “regular” appointments were concerned. The practice WILL see existing patients with dental emergencies with certain guidelines. Our next cleaning appointment is mid-May. No idea if they’ll be back to usual by then. At least we are being kept in the loop via emails.
As soon as their bank account hits Zero, they will call every hour. Business as usual.
I just got a call from the VA eye clinic. They are canceling my up coming eye exam. The woman who called went over my prescriptions to make sure I had everything I needed. She also told me what number to call in case of emergency.
This is an example of our government at work.

Here in Michigan, all optional dental, medical work, etc., has been delayed. The governor stopped all that a couple of weeks ago. My dentist rescheduled my April 2 checkup appointment back to April 30, but the legislature today okayed "hide and watch" powers for the state through April 30. Guess it's going to be rescheduled again.

Tell THAT to the local TOM's!
My dental office sent an e-mail to everyone they serve saying they are closed but you can call and leave a message if there is an urgent need and they will call back and make arrangements for you. I am glad that urgent needs will be cared for.

I guess I wasn't thinking a few weeks ago when I called my eye doctor to schedule a yearly visit. I got a very terse recording which just said: "We are not available". Nothing else. Thanks.
Supposed to be getting a new hip. Dr says they will call me when they are back up and running.

I am glad to hear that you had such a good experience at your VA clinic. Contrary to popular belief, there are a lot of dedicated, very professional folks that work at the VA. I have only worked at our local clinic for four years, but I am very impressed by the professionals that I work with. Even the maintenance and housekeeping departments do an amazing job - this is one of the cleanest clinics I have ever worked in. They have really stepped up during this crisis. I stepped out of my exam room for three minutes one day last week and when I returned and sat down my seat was wet - with disinfectant. I was surprised - but impressed.
They are closing all of our clinics here in central Florida. We are making telephone visits only. Most procedures, imaging, etc., is getting pushed back three months unless it is an emergency. I hope we can get back to regular care by then. Our base hospital now has batch testing for COVID that takes only 3 hours, and they run a batch every eight hours, so if we do a swab and send it we get results the next day. I am so glad we can offer that now. My wife works for a commercial reference lab - they were sending swabs to Birmingham - it is better now but yesterday she received results from a swab that was collected on March 24! That patients is either dead or has recovered!

I have Lab and Podiatry appointments on the 27th at the clinic. I would guess they will be postponed since both are just routine.
Stay well!

My dentist has been sending emails saying everyone should stop clogging up hospital emergency rooms and to call him if they need emergency dental care.

I remember as a kid that all “elective surgery” was canceled during “polio season”, which I believe came in the summer. You don’t want to unnecessarily expose patients to germs.
In this case, dentists are more likely avoiding exposure for themselves, but I agree that leaving a job half done was a bad idea; I wonder if that is a result of action by Civil Authorities which no one had thought through??
