What to do during all this? Does anyone play corn hole in the summer. We discovered this last year and had a ball playing. Unfortunately, the set we got from Wal-Mart is a cheapy and half regulation size. So I thought I’d just order one off Amazon. They have lots, only they won’t ship it to Alaska. Well, I thought, why don’t I make a set and save some money. Well, nearly $200.00 later, I’ve spent nearly twice as much as I would have if I’d been able to get the one from Amazon, but I had fun doing this with my son-in-law. We did the board yesterday, and today we’ll assemble the frame and legs and attach the board. We still have to stain the board and clear coat it. These are quick snaps with the iPhone, just for record during yesterday’s part of the project. I though it turned out quite well.

Yes it turned out nice, my grandson and his dad like too play that game.....

Thanks. I found instructions on how to make a corn hole set online. The design they show is different. I think this looks sharp. My grandson and I had a ball last summer playing. Ol’ Granddad smoked him, too. So I thought a regulation size set would be great. We’ll be doing this a lot.

Thanks, Bill. I never envisioned that it would be this extensive a project. Of course we aren’t working in a shop with all kinds of fancy equipment, so it’s slow going. But it’s a fun project. I’ll post a shot when we’re done. We got the boards and frames done today, and we stained the feet. Tomorrow we’ll put the feet on and clear coat it and we’ll be done. Now all we need is some warm weather and green grass.

Great idea and a nice end result. Building it yourself has an advantage, you can make the hole a little larger - a senior edge!

Great Job on the Graphics, I have built 4 sets of cornhole boards given two away. On Holidays the families get together and we have two sets going with everyone trading partners. Such a great time, getting ready to build a miniature set for the grandkids.

The lumber wasn’t so expensive, it was the other stuff. Paint, stain, and clearcoat were $10.00 a quart, the hole saw was $40.00, hardware added up, then there were incidentals, like paint rollers, blue tape, etc. I was surprised how it all added up. I have lots of wood screws and paint, now. But yes, lumber is more expensive up here.

I can't play that unless they find a new name for it. I was raised in the Midwest and that term had an entirely different meaning back then.

It’s been fun. I kept the hole regulation size, though. Last summer I consistently smoked my grandson, who is pretty good at corn hole, so I left it regulation. Boy is it heavy!!

I’m not sure I’d do this again. Lacking a shop or a large workbench, and having to do a lot of the work on the floor made it difficult, not to mention, getting down on my knees was a pain. I was reassured of the fact that I was never destined to be a carpenter, though!! 😁 Good thing my son-in-law has those skills.
