The devastation of CORVID-19 on the airlines is very evident by these screen shots from Flightradar24 and YouTube. Delta is now planning to retire MD 88, MD90 and Boeing 757 aircraft. All have been in service 20 years or more are are nearing the end of serviceable life.

Screen shot last night at 9:10 PM. The usually largest airport in the world by number of passenger boardings was extremely quiet.

Dave, 20 years is quite an understatement. The 757 was being test-flown in the early 1980's. I was flying for the Air Force Reserves at that time and we saw 757's and 767's in several areas of the country being flown. At that time MD-80s, 88s, and 90 were ancient equipment. Republic AirLines flew many MD 80s, a very small airframe designed for smaller markets. They had a hub in Detroit that was home to most of their. fleet. At the time the MD 80 was so small it was confused with the newer "commuter" type aircraft. When Northworst absorbed Republic all those little MD-80s were re-painted and continued to operator out of Detroit. Eventually, they went to South America to begin new lives. The world will probably lose a few carriers as a result of this crisis. That is inevitable. The same thing happened when the 707s and the DC-8 all came of age and disappeared. Well run airlines are constantly upgrading their equipment, but this time was not on too many companies radar as a time for replacement. We shall see what the future holds for the industry this time. Sept 2001 is beginning to look like a walk in the park compared to what we are encountering now.

I’ve been watching flight radar 24 often on for over an hour this morning and mostly DFW airport.
There’s a lot of traffic coming and going from DFW it’s curious to me because I live south of the airport and the plane is coming in landing on the east runways come right over the house so I’ve always been curious as an old pilot myself you know where they’re coming from and where they’re going and I am really amazed at the amount of airplanes in the air not only around here but other airports I’ll look at two I don’t know if they’re full planes are they’re limiting the passengers but there’s a lot of traffic here and other places too so I hope the airlines survive this mess. Flight radar 24 is a pretty cool app.

Same for Logan in Boston. Short of a major storm, I've never seen so little traffic. There seems to be a lot less traffic crossing the Atlantic too. Down at Hyannis, it looks like Cape Air is doing a lot more training or test flights than normal. Flightradar24 is really a neat tool.

Yep, now they can retire lots of aircraft and use the government bailout money to rebuild the fleet at taxpayers expense. I always thought it was good business to invest a portion of the profits into new equipment and inventory. Sigh, perhaps that is why I am still not a millionaire.

Try the FLIGHTAWARE app. With it you can do live flight tracking and by clicking on the aircraft symbol you can get the flight data including departure airport and destination airport (you will have to figure our airport codes ie. LAX is Los Angeles international and RDU is Raleigh Durham etc.) also includes speed and altitude.

I use flightaware all the time. As an aside, Chino airport KCNO has more traffic than Ontario Airport KONT. All the So Cal airports show extremely reduced traffic.

Same with Flightradar24. If click on the aircraft same info & route with live flight tracking. If you click on the airport code it takes you to that airport overview with a google maps photo and by clicking on runway data it expands and gives all the runway length(s). Just checked flightaware - it basically does the same, just click on the flight then the tag and the map expands and shows the origin airport on the map. I have it, but Flightradar24 gives more info presented in a better way for my uses.

Worked for Delta out on the ramp and in Crown Room. Loved every moment of it. My home usually has a bit of flight noise at certain times of the day and it has been very quiet these last few weeks. Can't imagine the risk of workers there now.
