have purchased a Canon 24mm TS-E with Canon to Sony E Metabones adapter; would like to hear from people who might have experience with a Metabones, any tips, particularly with regards to a lens like the Canon I bought which won't have autofocus; it is a manual lens, so I guess it doesn't work in AE ? I could buy something like a Canon RP body, but don;t really want ANOTHER camera system

I take it Sony has no Tilt/Shift lenses.
A Fotodiox adapter for $59.00 will provide metering and aperture control just fine for the Canon T/S lenses. No AF in the lenses so anything more is money wasted.
But your Meta adapter should provide those simple operations on the Canon T/S lens.
Now if you anticipate getting other Canon lenses with AF that Sony does not offer the Meta adapter is the best choice.
So enjoy the Canon T/S lens and it will work just fine.

Since this is a manual focus lens you will not see many of the benefits available with the Metabones adapter. In fact, I will go so far as to say that you could have purchased a far less expensive adapter that would have suited your purpose just fine. However, if you have other Canon lenses that you plan to mate with your Sony body, the Metabones adapter will work well with most Canon lenses. Changing to a Canon RP body will not benefit you since the manual focus lens will remain a manual focus lens no matter what body you put it on.

The Canon 24mm TS-E is a manual-focus only lens, even on a native Canon EOS body. Also, metering doesn't work when shifted; you need to lock or meter the exposure in the unshifted position, and then shift back to your chosen positions.

Now that you have one and a bit of hands-on experience, the details provided in this review might explain the usage more clearly:

I use a Metabones V on a SONY a6300 and have had a recurring issue. The small amount of play in the mount causes a problem where electrical contact is lost between lens and body. Typically I’m doing macro in manual focus. Contact is occasionally lost and live view functions go funky (+ the f/# at the bottom of the screen goes from F:5.6 to F:---,) the solution has been to depress the mount button and twist the mount slightly at the body interface and contact is regained. Stabilizing the mount contact with a plate that maintains alignment has eliminated this frustration with my heavy Sigma 150/f2.8. I just put up with this on my other lenses. This sometimes occurs with the SONY LA-EA1 & 2 which I use with Minolta/Sony Alpha lenses also. So I have to remember that when focusing &/or exposure issues suddenly pop up to glance down at the f:# and sure enough it has gone to f:---.

I had this problem with my 300mm f:4L and solved it by purchasing a Canon 7Dii body.

If you are adapting a AF lens, the Sigma MC-11 is the best option for adapting to Sony. I am using it with a Tamron 15-30 f2.8 and a Sigma 24-35 f2 and they work great, eye AF, tracking, stabilizer, it all works well. I was using the Sigma 105 f2.8 macro adapted and it works fine also but I recently traded it for the Sony 90 macro and it is an impressive macro lens.

First, the Canon 24mm TS-E lens I have bought is a manual lens, and, it is the only Canon lens I am intent on purchasing ( I just switched from Nikon to Sony, but wanted this lens )

Second, there is no second

I have both a MetaBones III & IV as well as a Sigma MC-11. The MC-11 is superior to MetaBones and less $$$'s! I also have FotodioX, Commlite and cheap King adapters.

All the above 'work' with Canon EF lenses but the MC-11 is the best of the lot WRT autofocus and aperture control. The MC-11 is the only one that I've found that works fairly consistently with third party EF mount lenses.

In one respect the King adapter beats them all; cost. For the $$$'s it is the best of the lot, although not the best/fastest control, but it works!

Interesting: so far, one person has stated the Metabones is superior to the Sigma, and another has stated that the Sigma is superior to the Metabones

If you have no intention of buying any auto Canon lenses, get the least expensive Chinese built adapter and go for it. Maybe pick up two while you're at it in case the quality of the adapter is not all that great. Maybe consider the King adapter I mentioned earlier; an automatic adapter but reasonable quality and inexpensive.

I probably have 4-5 of these and simply leave them on the Canon lenses I use on Sony bodies.
