Pulled this one out of storage. Visited the river that day and recorded the rope swing. This feature sits on an island in the Mississippi River where the Ojibwe and the Souix (Chippewa) tribes fought fearsome battles. The island, as I've heard, in more recent years is a place where a stolen kiss was stolen. There are a few other stories but they best not be told cause they are only hearsay. This location also hosted beer parties when the mosquitos were bearable. So kids were apparently challenged to experience the swing for some reason. The channel has to be crossed to reach the island which has a fairly strong current but many(?) accepted the challenge for a bit of Life On A String. Apparently a so called right of passage for the locals. Well, last year as a result of continuous high water conditions the tree succumbed to saturation of the surrounding soil and it fell.
Just a bit of dreaming for those carefree days of youth.
I have many rope swing memories myself Floyd. Thanks for bringing them back! Oh and nice image too.
Very nice it does bring back memories--of the number of belly flops when trying to do back flips from the tire. I think B&W is the perfect medium for this memory.
Love your composition and processing!
Thank you Tom, Jack & LFM
