Does any one have experience with this lens on Nikon D5500?
I want it for birding, will be using burst mode to try and capture some good in flight pictures.
Thanks

My wife and I have Tamron 150-600 g2 lenses. Mine is mounted on a D850 and hers on a D7200. All of our images are tack sharp. We have never had a focusing issue in low light and have been doing wildlife photography with this lens for almost three years. We use single point focus and Back button focusing. Check out Steve Perry if you don’t know how to set up back button focus. I have shot many hummingbird photos successfully in all kinds of light conditions. It does take some acquired skill to use this lens but it is well worth the effort. As is the case for any large lens proper lighting is important

I strongly suggest the Nikon 200-500 5.6. Which is sharp through out its zoom range and was (unlike the Tamron) specifically designed to work on Nikon camera's. You will be quite pleased with the results of this lens.
Below are a few images taken with this lens. Remember, a lens is only as sharp as the person using it. Using correct techniques is as important as the lens in capturing images.
Great Egret, Green Heron chicks, San Hill Cranes with Colt, Pie-billed Grebe with frog.

Amen, I have both the 200 to 500mm 5.6 and the Tamron 150 to 600 G2 and the only reason I'm not selling the Tamron is that I don't want to take the money hit so I'll just set it aside and use it sparingly when the lightning is very good and not at the upper limits where the sharpness falls off. The 200 to 500 is outstanding throughout the focal length.

Many members of this forum use the Tamron G2 and many members use the Nikon 200x500. I've seen excellent images produced by both lenses attached to a number of different camera bodies. Frankly, I think you would probably be happy with either lens. I own the G2 and could post a few pics I have taken with that lens (I recently posted some hummingbird shots in the Photo Galley should you be interested). But they would be my shots, not yours. Before I purchased the G2 I asked myself if that extra 100mm at the end of the range was important. Personally, I felt the answer was "yes". I would venture to guess that when out birding my G2 lens is at full extension about 90% of the time.

Well said!! I completely agree with this comment. I have the G2 and love it, the extra reach is always needed as I shoot birds quite often. Very pleased with this lens. The success of any lens +400mm lies 80% with the shooter and technique. I've been shooting with it for over a year and if I can't get the shot it's my fault, or I'm asking the camera to do too much in poor light.

We agree with you. If there is a poor shot,it has been us and not the lens. My wife and I are nature photographers. Last month I was blessed to have sold 37 prints on the international market. I just got notice today that I have won 149 international awards using this lens. Six months ago I had placed my D810 G2 combo on a side table so I could get to it quickly. I left the strap hanging down and my Australian Shepherd thinking it was a toy pulled it of onto the hard tile floor. It gutted my camera with the insides of the camera on the rear of the lens. We took the guts off of the lens and when my D850 arrived tested the lens. It worked perfectly.
My insurance company gave me enough money to upgrade to a D850. It has been a great combo.

I just spent some time in the desert photographing the wildlife. When I was finished I noted that I had turned off the VC by mistake. All my photos were still tack sharp and it was all handheld

Right now we have a show going on, but some of my my photos can be seen on ricksphotos.net. I have not upgraded it for about six months. The side bar gives a few options.
