First post and new to photography for about 3 years. When do you change cartridges on a Canon Pro 1000 printer? I am using OEM inks. Do you change when you see an exclamation point on the printer’s LED screen or at some other time? When the exclamation point appears there is still ink in the cartridge. The user’s manual is not clear if there is an indication that the tells you if the cartridge is completely empty. I am not sure if the cartridge should go completely empty or if the printer would shut off if one did go empty. I need some help here. Thanks in advance for your advice.
You can go a little past, but you will soon see banding, or a lack of ink (not sure what it is called).
I have gone about ten -12 prints past and things are still OK. Three 13x19s and the rest 8.5 X 11s It is probably time to change the ten cartridges. This is the first change.
I believe the pro 1000 will not print with an empty cartridge
The 1000 will not print with a empty cartridge. It will not start to print with one empty. It uses ink to keep the print head clean.
Do *not* change the on the first indication of "low ink". There is usually about 10% or so ink left in the cartridge at that point. The machine calculates how much ink will be used for the next print, and then it will or will not allow you to print. (If you are doing multiple prints, you can start, but it will stop when it figures you do not have enough for the next print in the queue.) At *that* time, when it will not allow printing to begin, change the cart. Only change the cart that has the "!". Don't change them all at once. You will find that the yellow, grey, and CO will require changing first.
You might want to call Canon (877) 287-2366 if you need advice PS you should have a waste cartridge on hand
Keep printing until the printer stops. Only change the cartridge that's blinking when you open the cover. The printer will stop again when the next cartridge is empty.
I have the Pixma Pro 10, so not the same machine. I do not change the cartridges until the printer indicates it will not print an image. I am surprised some times at how many prints can be made after the 'low ink' warning first shows up. As mentioned earlier, change the cartridges one at a time as needed. The ink is not used up at the same rate in each cartridge.
