Questions About the Lens Profile in Lightroom

When I start my post processing in LR the first things I do is to check the boxes for chromatic aberration and then the one for lens profile. When I enter Tamron for the make the only profile that comes up is for a Tamron 28-75. I don't own a 28-75 and it doesn't matter which lens I enter (I have 5 Tamron) this is the only one it will list.

My questions are:

Does it make a difference that the profile isn't exact?

Should I be using lens profile at all?

Is there a way to fix it either in camera or in the program?

Thanks to all you LR gurus for your help!!!

I have more than a page of Tamron profiles to scroll through when I select Tamron in LR6. What version of LR are you using? What camera? When you check the EXIF data, is the version / model of Tamron being captured / reported in the image file?

I am using Lightroom classic version 9.2 and the exif is showing the correct lens....Tamron 90mm on a Nikon D750. I will attach a recent photo if you want to see the EXIF. This photo is SOOC

I have the same experience. I'm a Canon user, but the only lens listed is 28-75 f/2.

Many are supported....maybe check with Adobe help. This page has a list of supported plus a link to the how-to info.

Quote from Adobe help: Lightroom display only the profiles available for the file type of the selected image.

I wonder if you are using jpeg would raw display the profiles? Might be worth a try.

This is probably the cause and solution. Profiles are applied in-camera for JPEG, but typically only for the same lens brand as the camera. Also, you have enable these profiles to be applied. And for EOS cameras, you may even have to download the profiles from Canon and install to the camera. When I said I has page(s) of Tamron, I had opened a Sony RAW file in LR6. Profiles are not applied to RAW files, just the EXIF data of the lens used and various shooting settings.

You solved my problem. When I read this my first thought was "JPEG....I shoot RAW!!!" Then I grabbed the camera and went into the menu. I don't know how but it was changed from RAW to JPEG. To be sure, I fired off a shot and loaded the image. The image I just took was RAW and all the photos I've taken this spring were JPEG. AARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

Thank you for your help!!! I greatly appreciate it.

Problem solved. I don't know how or when the setting was switched to JPEG but it is now back on RAW where it's supposed to be.

Thank you so much for your help!!!!

Bleirer and CHG_Canon discovered my problem. My camera was set to take JPEGs instead of RAW. I changed the setting and took a photo and the correct lens came right up in the profile.

Thank you for taking the time to help. I really appreciated it.

I'm still wondering why Zuiko or m.Zuiko lenses don't appear on Lightroom's support list. (Is it because they're already perfect?!) Where are the 4/3rds lenses?

Using LR 6.14, all my Canon lenses still appear in the profile. Since LR6 is no longer being updated, newer lenses will not appear in the profile.

Dodie, Adobe does offer a lens profiling kit that allows you to make your own profiles for lenses for which they don't have profiles. It's free. I've used it for several of my lenses and it works rather well.

Don’t feel bad. I had the same thing happen to me—shooting jpeg when I wanted raw.
