I went grocery shopping at 6:00 AM today. The store opens early for old folks. Most were wearing masks, but I didn't want to look foolish, so I went bare-faced. : )

They had TP, but limits of two per customer. They had lots of spaghetti sauce, but not much spaghetti. The soup aisle was funny. There was quite a bit of soup, but only the kind that no one wants to eat - not even me. Customers kept their distance, but there was no fighting over things. Overall, I could have bought anything I wanted, but I got mostly fruits and veg. I should be okay for at least two weeks.

On the plus side, my son will be on leave from Lowe's for three weeks. His doctor sent a note to the store getting him out of work. That's the procedure the store wants. He has pretty bad asthma, and he also has an old father at home. It's a relief having him not deal with 300 grouchy customers every day and then coming home to me.

Early is the best time for us old folks. Most of us grew up following the rules so the new rules aren’t that difficult.

Hey Jerry, you're a pretty handy fellow, why not make your own pasta, really nothing is easier.
Single serving
3/4 cup flour to one egg, mix together and keep kneading til you have a dough ball with a bit of a sheen to it and it comes back when you push your finger in (well mostly back). Then wrap in saran in the fridge for half an hour then back out and roll it out fold it over roll it out again, do that four or five times then just roll out as thin as you want and you can hand cut with a knife into fettuccine, linguine, spaghetti, or however you want to cut it. when you boil it three minutes should do the trick and ....

You won't want the store bought stuff ever again!!

doesn't need oil or salt, this is the simplest recipe and super tasting

You were smart to go early. Probably less virus floating in the air. Even better - order groceries online at Walmart and then drive up and they will come out and load them in your car. For staples, leave them in the garage or a closet for a week before bringing them in to the house and handling them. And wash your hands thoroughly after handling these.

Are you sure its not vice versa.
Oh, by the by. Looking foolish was NOT wearing a mask.

When this is all over, some people will have TP for the next 5 years.

Like you, I'm shopping early during "senior citizens" hour, mostly at Target and the local grocery chain. Have gotten some disinfectant cleaners, TP, and paper towels in recent trips, but the three things that are consistently not available are hand sanitizer, aloe vera gel, and 91% alcohol. Gee, I wonder why? :-)

I have a grocery store about 15 miles from me that has curbside delivery. Just order online and pick a time and date for pickup. Only problem is finding a date and time. If the store is out of an item they may substitute it with something similar. No fee and no tip. The people who work for these essential services are to be saluted also.
