On a trip to Yellowstone N.P., I was taken totally by surprise by Isa Lake and the spectacular yellow lily pads thriving at 8297 feet above sea level right beside the road. My husband and I spent quite some time "playing" with our cameras and the natural light. These splendid lilys are Nuphar polysepalum and can be found in shallow muddy ponds from northern Alaska and Yukon southward to central California as well as northern New Mexico.
