Ok I now own the bridge camera and looking over the web to see the images taken with it. So I came across some new to me eh terminology, where instead of the focal lenght the milimeter lenght is given eh. But the thing is that I dont see anywhere on my camera setting for such a focal lenght.

Example; 4.3mm huh? my lens goes from 28- 3000mm. How does one get to that wide angle (4.3mm)
thats some fishy eye eh?
I am sure someone here will have an reasonable explanation as this terminology might have someone else confused too.
Stay safe, fine folks and use rose coloured lens in mean time1

Seeing as you posted this on April fools day I'm guessing you are "yanking our chains".

You should never read any numbers on a bridge camera ... thaz why one chooses that type of gear (eh?)

There acoarst is a technical explanation, but learning it would undermine the whole bridge camera experience of freedom from the nitty gritty, eh !

Quite often there are techie looking numbers and such sprinkled about on these cameras cuz the marketing department thinks it helps justify the price. But once you’ve paid the price, what you’ve really bought is the freedom to ignore all the numbers and just enjoy photography. Good deal, eh ?

I have to ask, as I think has been pointed out to you before....

What is "acoarst"? Are you thinking of the words "Of course..."?

At your suggestion I just triple checked that post, and must conclude that YOU have a reading problem.

I apologize for not being more specific, as it pertains to the P1000, hence 28 on the wide and *3000 mm on the long side. What confuses me is the fact that that lens is only 28mm eh, on the widest and not nearly the fantastic 4.3mm.
As I now understand it, the 4.3 mm reference is to the Sensor, the cell phone size one in that beast. I love it and I hate it at the same time. Does that make sense?

Acoarst it makes sense. Love is usually just as you described !

BTW you’ve almost got the “4.3=28” concept but not quite. Try this: Have you used a rollfilm camera and didn’t it have an 80mm or thereabouts for its normal lens, eh ? That lens is normal, not mild tele, eh ? Okay yes 80 is normal for rollfilm just like 50 is normal for smaller film like you put in a Nikon F.

So did you ever notice the lens on a small movie camera, eh ? You know how tiny those movie frames are ... and maybe you noticed that the normal lens on the movie camera is only 10mm, eh ? And that tiny 10mm is NORMAL for those tiny frames ! Smaller film frames use smaller normal lenses.

OKAY now ! The film frame in your P1000 is about same size as those movie frames so the normal lens for the P1000 is also about 10mm, just like the movie camera, eh ? That means 10mm on the P1000 is like a 50mm on a Nikon F. So ... we say that 10 (maybe 8, it’s not so critical really) on your P1000 is its “50mm EQUIVALENT”, eh ?

OKAY now ! So if 10 or perhaps 8 is the P1000’s “50”, then 5 or perhaps 4 would be the P1000’s “25”, eh ? Thus 4.3 is the P1000’s “28”. Easy enuf to see also that if 4.3 is its “28” then acoarst 43 would be its “280” and 430 would be its “2800” ... just about out to that maximum “3000” now, so let’s let it rest, eh ?

If you teach math maybe you’re going to scold me for being just mite sloppy there, eh ? BUT that made it easier to explain ... and if you noticed such minor error, then that means you understood the explanation !

The 28-3000 is the equivalent angle of view on that tiny sensor as compared to a 35 mm sensor/lens combo.
The 4.3 mm is the actual length of the the lens - probably at the wide end.

Translation=that camera has a TINY sensor.

Yes it does. I have that camera (the Nikon p1000). Sensor size is 1-2/3 inches, crop factor is 5.6!!!That's how a 539 mm extension gets to a whopping 3000!

4.3mm is the actual lens focal length if that is the starting point of the range and 28mm is the equivalent focal length relative to the sensor size. The camera has a crop factor of 6.5.

Its irrelevant to actual use unless comparing cameras of varying sensor size. Just ignore it.
