Hi Everyone,
First I hope everyone is well!!

I thought I would try a couple of shots of the moon the other night. I have a couple of questions:
1. What are the purple and blue artifacts that I am seeing in the cropped picture of the moon. I bumped the shadows a bit and then processed it through Topaz Denoise.

2. The second image, I was just messing around taking some pictures of the stars and saw this object. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Eric

An Unidentified Flying Object for sure. Perhaps an alien vessel collecting Covid-19 samples?

The first is chromatic aberration. The second might be a satellite.

Hi -
The purple and blue artifacts appear to be chromatic adoration. There are green artifacts also if you look very carefully. Very common when you shoot with your lens wide open or close to wide open. They are easily removed using Lightroom.

The object in the second image is a satellite of some sort.

Looks like a 5 second handheld shot of the moon at about 35mm.

Dang, I told Spock that new mini-shuttle wasn't stealthy enough, no cloaking device for the cargo trailer.

If the two were taken with the same magnification and are both cropped the same for posting (or not cropped at all), then the second object is very large. I know that the ISS transiting across the moon/sun during the eclipse looked far smaller than that does. You can see its relative size in this vid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lepQoU4oek4
Though the whole video is good as are all of the SmarterEveryDay vids, the transit size relationship is shown near the beginning. Aside from size, it also doesn't look like the correct profile for the ISS.
As for what it is, I have no idea, but some astrophotographers probably would.

Nice shots! Looks like the moon photo has been explained. The second object interests me. Was it stationary or were you tracking it? It almost looks like the Hubble Space Telescope. It orbits at about 350 miles or so.... Rather than saying it's a UFO I would rather think you caught an earth satellite.

Dang. My cousin never could remember to cloak close in. Have to talk to him about that — again.

Fun shot! Thanks
