Thank you so much for posting that marvelous tribute to The Lady, Huey. I never flew in one but reading the tribute I could understand how feelings for a machine can run so deep. Thanks!

Quite a testament to the "Huey." Having served in naval aviation, I can understand the attachment to a flying machine.

Yes! Hear that sound and look to catch a glimpse - Here in this part of Southern California we still see (an HEAR) them from time to time.

You could tell a lot about a person if they looked up when that thump thump sound filled the air.

Yep, odds are they flew ‘em or spent time riding in one. For some, they were one of the world’s fastest ambulances - a real life saver.

My Brother was a Medic in these birds, was flown in to pickup the wounded Soldiers, said it was something you have a hard time forgetting, he was in Country 67-68, said to me, he would rather not discuss it, just be glad you missed it all. I graduated in 69 and went to College for 2 years, had a high draft #, so never got called to go.

I flew in about 50 of those sorties. Never really thought about what a workhorse they were, since they were everywhere in the First Air Cav, Tay Ninh Vietnam

Your brother and those pilots are true American Heroes. I was also in country 67-68. Please tell your brother "welcome home" for me.

Read this before, but had to read again. Yes, anyone who has been a crew member on a Huey will attest to this article.
To me, the Huey "is" Viet Nam. I have over a thousand hours in Huey's, including Gunships.
Loved flying that bird. No Autopilot; take your hands off the controls, and in seconds it will go where you do not want to go. A definite hands on bird! Extremely reliable too.
Rest in Peace Huey....

Good old Slicks, as a Paratrooper in the Mountains of the Central Highlands in Viet Nam, flew a lot of Air Assaults or Combat Missions in those birds, feet hanging out over the skids....The Pilots and Crews of those Copters and Dust Offs, were the Bravest coming into a Hot LZ...

Curious. What year were you there. I was in Qui Nhon 1964-65 and flew lots of flights in and over the Central Highlands.

Brown water Navy 69-70 and always knew that when the s**t hit the fan you could count on a Heuy crew to save your bacon. I still stop and look up and listen to the sound of rescue and support from those birds. Thank you for allowing me to come home.
