Hello
I have a Nikon D5100
iI was going to shoot some pictures yesterday found the top button that
you press to take a picture is stuck . It will not go down. My battery is fully changed. I had the camera serviced a few months ago. Everything was fine.
Now with this virus we are isolating and the camera stores are closed.
What can I do?
Thank you in advance for ANY HELP
Is there a lock accidentally actuated so you don't press the shutter when you don't want to?
Look again it’s probably a NIKON 5100 not 1500 !! Look carefully for the word lock . You may need to turn it .

Yes that was a typo . It is indeed a Nikon D5100 and I love it
A stuck mirror can cause the shutter button to get stuck also. Remove the lens and check mirror...
Do you have a card in the camera? If not you may have shutter set to not not work w/o card.
Perhaps I am wrong but I think the shutter release button on the D5100 always goes down when you press it. It may not take a picture if it's malfunction but I think the lock doesn't keep it from going down.

(I have my camera set to not take shots without a card, prevents me from making a stupid mistake when shooting. But, I always have a card in the camera.)
The D5100 has a focus priority shutter setting, under autofocus in the Custom Settings Menu. If you had that set, and the AF switch set to M, you would be able to depress the shutter button, but nothing would happen if the subject was not in focus. Not likely, but worth checking.

Dyslexia attack? She said 5100....
(probably was rectified during the edit period no... DISREGARD)
She plainly said the button will not go down ... which means 90% of replies here are from peeps who can’t or don’t read the OP question.
Anywho it needs fixing. Hopefully there’s a commonly known DIY online if it’s a common malady. Otherwise the repair could cost as much as the camera’s current value :-(
