This representative of "Big Bad Birdies" - Inland Empire Chapter* came to call just before lunch time. Didn't get any lunch, so sat around on the fence a while, then on a birdbath for a while and finally left when no one came and volunteered to be lunch. I am bad at bird ID except a few. I cant decide if this is an immature Cooper's Hawk or a largish Sharp Shinned.
80D, Tamron 150-600 G2 @ 600 mm, 1/640 @ f/11, ISO-5000 due to back lighting by sun and spot meter on birds body. Then I had to use post processing apps to cut down the over exposed feathers with sunlight shinning through them.
*Inland Empire is a name applied to a large region east and south east of Los Angeles and Orange Counties and inland from the coastal mountains. Probably by real estate developers though at one time it was a "Citrus Empire" as well as grapes and wineries to a much greater extent than it is today.

It's a very nice shot ! Having said that, I would question f11 and ISO 5000 ?? Hand held ??
Great image. I too am leaning toward coopers hawk. Sharp shined are smaller with darker eyes. vz

Coopers Hawk, I believe.
That is my first go-to ID since we have them year round, but the Sharp Shinned winter here. A birder group on FB says Cooper's also. And fairly young because the eyes are not red. For those who don't know as Cooper's Hawks get older their eyes which start as yellow gradually go through orange to red as mature adults.

Thanks
f/11 because I was doing hummers and small birds at the feeders and they keep moving on me so I wanted more DOF to catch them infocus
ISO 5000 because with the fairly high SS and f/11 when a cloud passes over the sun my Auto ISO setting runs it up and this bird was in shade with a bit of back light.
No, I have the camera and lens on a tripod with gimbal head shooting out the sliding door of my house just a couple of feet from my desk and computer. Look sideways, see bird, shift to stool behind tripod and take pictures. Go back to computer or to reading a book.
