Chionanthus retusus...a beautiful spring-blooming deciduous tree. Here on the gulf coast, ours has great fall color, loses its leaves in December and leafs out again starting in February. Native to China, Japan and Korea, the fringe tree is small, well-behaved and non-invasive. The fringe tree native to the USA is the Grancy Greybeard. Canon 70-200. Please try the downloads.

Beautiful. I liked the #1 especially at first glance, but looking at the download of the second one the light coming through the petals and the shadows on the leaves make for a pretty great image, too. Reminds me of our Serviceberry trees, which will be among the first plants to bloom here.

Thanks so much, Mike. Our local botanical garden sells Serviceberry trees in its spring sale each year, and I've been intending to buy one. They're beautiful trees.

Thanks so much, Ken. They grow to about 20ft tall and 20ft wide as well. Very slow-growing. Here's a link if you'd like to see a picture of the tree in bloom.

Thanks so much, Linda. Oh yes I do, and the light is why #2 is my favorite as well.

These are lovely, but #2 captured my heart. I love the sharp focus on the blossoms and the beautiful, buttery background.
