I will also add to the support for the Tamron 18-400. It’s my walk-around lens on my D500. I think IQ is probably a little better than your Sigma.

I have read good reports on the newer Nikon 18-300 DX lens from several sources.

A zoom in that range will be heavy.

Hi there. I'm thinking Id like a new lens for my camera. I presently have a Sigma 18-250, but I'd like to have something a little longer, like 400-500. BUT I don't want something heavy, or so long that I need to have it on a tripod to use it. I like my Sigma, it fits well, takes a good pic for an amature like me, but I'd like to get the wood ducks swimming on the pond without them being scared away. Any suggestions? Trying to keep it under $600.

Here you go, and it is currently under $550.00. Excellent lens, excellent construction, excellent reputation, excellent results.

I have the Nikkor 70-300 P VR that I bought from KEH for around $300. But I think the Tamron 18-400 might be a better choice based on what others are saying.

Looks like the tamron 18-400 might be a winner. Could those of you who have one please post a picture of it on the camera, and how much it weighs and it’s length. Thanks.

I have a Tamron 18-400 for my Nikon 5300 and really like. It has good reviews and is close to your budget. I purchased it at B&H about 2 years ago.

Thank you, everyone. My Tamron 18-400 should be here Thursday. Just in time for my walk in the woods. I appreciate all of you for taking the time to send me a comment. Live well, prosper, and stay healthy.

For size, weight and cost considerations, you want the Tamron 18-400.
