The first flower which I feel blooms by the calendar instead of by the weather is the aconite. It is small about 3 inches high but the early timing gives my spirit a lift. The flowers picture two is petasites is also very early but any leaves will come later as in picture three. I understand it is eatable but when asked if we eat it I always say"no, we don't have a pan big enough."The hellebore also blooms early and the flowers can stand a really cold temp.without damage. Skunk cabbage also is very early and nothing seems to bother it, even the deer don't touch it. The Rhododendron is a species from North East China and blooms at least a month before the other Rhododendrons and the cold doesn't seem to hurt the new blossoms. Most of these would be over shadowed by the later plants but still they serve a special purpose in removing the winter doldrums. Like I said these plants much earlier than others say Spring Spring Spring. Now I have one to wait for the false Hellobore and the catbird and Spring will locked in again.

MY first flower which I feel blooms by the calendar instead of by the weather is the Winter aconite. It is small but it's early color give a spirit lift. The flowers in picture are those of Petasites, not to spectacular but when thew leaves come later it is spectacular. The leaves are later (picture three). I am told the plants are eatable but when asked if I ear them I always say," no we don't have a pan big enough," Picture is a hellebore Christmas Rose whose flowers ar bake to stand a very low temparature without damage.Picture five is skunk cabbage which is not hurt by temp. or pest sort of later as a natural hosta the deer woun't eat. The rhododendron is a species from North East China. R. macromulatum blooms at least a month before other Rhododendrons snd unlike the others cold doesn't seem to affect the blossoms Like I said these plants seem to say Spring Spring Spring. Now I only have to wait for the appearance of the False Hellobore and the return of the catbird to finally feel Spring Secure.

Beautiful set and we also love spring. Today my wife and I were taking a break from pruning some beauty berries bushes and cleaning up the accumulation of leaves in several of the flower beds and as we were enjoying some cold sodas my wife happen to look high up into several of the very tall trees and ask what those yellow blooms were which were located very high near their tops and we finally decided that they were Jasmon vines blooming! Then we noticed that they were also blooming in several other trees! We have been residing here for about thirty years and had never noticed them until today which amazes me. No big deal, but things such as this adds a little to life, especially on such a beautiful Spring day. Take care!
