Here are some of the photos of woodpeckers in flight taken in my yard today. The Red-bellied Woodpecker is often seen. The Downy Woodpecker is seen not often as Red-bellied one. The Red-headed woodpecker is rare. Thanks in advance for viewing!

These are very nice. I have never actually seen woodpeckers fly. In my youth, I saw lots of woodpeckers, but only in the trees, pecking away.

Are the top two Pileated Woodpeckers?

Thanks for viewing and the comment! The first two are Red-headed woodpeckers. Here another photo for this bird is attached for reference. Thanks!

Thank you, again, Richard HZ. This angle makes it much easier to see he is much smaller and differently colored than a Pileated. Stll, very nice shots. There are several in an area I go to a lot in the Hill County of Texas; I hope to see them more and in flight. Nice inspiration.

Photo #5 and #6 are fine examples of fly-by-wire** wing design. Considering the computer size the system is quite well designed and refined every bit as good if not better than the Bowing 737. The basic Downy Woodpecker survived, but the Downy Woodpecker Max did not survive; the sensing system was poorly designed and that bird species plagued by crashes.

We can learn a lot from nature. Why did it take so long to put disrupters on the tips of airplane wings to reduce turbulence and increase lift, Richard HZ, that simple modification of wing design is obvious from your fine photo....
