With my two favorite classic cars it’s my favorite to drive

I drive a '89 Jaguar XJS coupe V12 now, at 81 I mellowed out a bit, but still like to zoom it up to 120 or 30 now and then when the wife isn't with me!

My 10,000 original miles Corvette,
That I hope their will be a classic car show
For me to show

Very nice, but you have only driven it about 250 miles a year? That's not even a good day's drive. If you like it so much, why not drive it? Maybe you have something else that you have fun driving. I'm almost as old as you are and I love driving and driving quickly. My current primary driver is a 2006 Mazda 3 Grand Touring with a 5 speed manual, Koni adjustable shocks and ultra high performance Bridgestone summer tires. It's got 175,000 miles on it (I bought it new) and it's fun to drive and as you can see, I drive it a lot. We did a 4,000 mile plus road trip in 11 days in it. Get it in the twisties, keep the revs up and have fun. A quick rev-matched double-clutched heel and toe downshift is good for the soul. It's not as fast as a Corvette, but I've had and continue to have fun with it. It is fast enough to get speeding tickets though. When it gets worn out, I'll probably replace it with another Mazda 3, or maybe a 2 series BMW. Unfortunately, I don't fit in a Miata (or a Lotus 7). BTW, I've got '67 Barracuda Formula S (small block V-8, 4 speed manual) that I got new that has been sitting in my garage for about 35 years awaiting restoration. Oh, it has 169,000 miles on it, with something like 6,000 of those at over 100 MPH when there were no speed limits in Nevada. My bottom line is that high performance cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed, otherwise, you might as well be driving a Prius or a Camry.

As a sidelight, back when we needed a new minivan for our family of 7 and to tow our camping trailer, the deciding factor between a Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey was that the Honda handled better, so we bought it.

Zoom Zoom!

There are so many aspects to cars and different ways to enjoy them. I remember the '61 Impala; a good friend of mine had a '59 2 door coupe with a 348 V-8 and a 2 speed "powerslide" automatic. I was "into" NASCAR and drag racing until a good friend of mine convinced me to go to the sports car races at Laguna Seca at age 14. I scoffed at "those funny little foreign cars" until I got to the track. I was immediately hooked and have been ever since. I've tried watching NASCAR a couple of times (the Daytona 500 about 5 years ago and the recent Darlington race) and can't go any farther than about lap 20 before I turn it off. I've been a road racing fan ever since that fateful day in 1962. I let my subscriptions to Hot Rod and Car Craft expire and immediately subscribed to Road & Track and Sports Car Graphic; I still subscribe to Road & Track. I was so hooked on small nimble cars that my first car was a 1960 Mini. As soon as I can, I'm going to get out on a long day road trip, probably over Sonora Pass, then Tioga Pass (the two highest in California at ~9,700 and 9,950 feet) and into Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite. The drive over Sonora Pass is one of the best and Tuolumne Meadows is one of the most beautiful and serene places on the planet, especially in spring. The drive through Yosemite is one of the best as well. I've done the drive a few times in my Mazda; it's about 10 hours and 450 miles of driving and a wonderful way to spend the day. Add about 3 hours for lunch, wandering around Tuolumne Meadows and photography and there isn't much better that you can do in a day. There is another drive I plan to take as well, that goes north to Red Bluff, then northeast to Rio Dell in the redwoods, then south on U.S. 101 to CA 1 to Mendocino and then home. The drove on CA 36 is about 140 miles of twisty road, the drive south on CA 1 along the coast is spectacular and the drive from just south of Mendocino on CA 128 is one of the best ~60 miles of road I've ever driven. The whole thing is about 600 miles and 12 hours of driving. I've driven all of it except CA 36, but I've heard it's a great road. Then there is this drive through the Sierras............

I hope you successfully recover from your cancer, your family issues get resolved and you can get out and enjoy your vehicles.

Thank you for your concern. I had a 1960 Impala 2 door hardtop, 348, trips, 4 speed, Duntov cam and solid lifters; it was my first time going over a hundred, on a trip thru Wyoming, I got the speedometer to 100 in 3rd gear and went into 4th and the speedometer went to 120 and I let off, scared me a bit! Now my Jag will do 140 with no troubles, never went any farther! I built a Jeep CJ5 a few years ago, has a 400 Siamese bore small block, Crane cam, Heads by Paul, 4 barrel, headers with cherry bombs, 400 auto, Detroit lockers, electric fans, 35 tires, roll cage, etc., will lift the front tires up a foot or more, drove a hundred mph one day but realized that a jeep is not aerodynamical designed for that speed comfortably! LOL
