Hi Guys,
Can anyone help me...I want a png of myself to add to another image...
I have no idea how to remove the surrounds and just leave myself..
I've attached two versions of the same pic.
I can save the whole image as a png but I want just me left...
Cheers,
Ron.

Why the focus on PNG? A PNG is just a JPEG with a lossless compression when the file is repeatedly edited and saved.

What is the original file capture format coming out of the camera? When the image file is edited, what tool is being used? The capability of this edit tool controls how easily you can be extracted from the background and then simply saved into any useful format for merging with a different background, while maintaining the most amount of original image data.

Possibly cos a PNG can be saved with a transparent background. A Jpeg will always show a white background with a cut out image

A PNG is more than just a JPEG with lossless compression. PNG files can have transparency whereas JPEG cannot. Any transparency in a PNG converted to a JPEG will be white.

I did a quick one for you. There is some chromatic aberration showing up in some areas of the picture, so do to a great job on this would require substantially more time. Maybe you can use this one. Note that UHH displays just about anything as a JPEG, so even though the picture has a white background, I stored the original, so the download is a PNG with a transparent background. I'm retired and in self-isolation due to COVID-19, so if you want a cleaner version, let me know. It probably would take a couple of days.

Here's a another version, with a bit more clean up of the selection tool I did since my first response, done in PSE. To elaborate on my original post, if all the editing is done at once, you don't have to get mixed into the PNG format. Agreeing with russelray's comment, the 'transparent' PNG gives a shareable format where the PNG can be pasted onto / over other images, an on-demand merge process that can be repeated over time over various backgrounds. The quality of that 'pasteabily' depends on the quality of the original image and the level of effort used in selecting the edges of the content to assure a smooth and clean selection of just the original source.

Ron, I can't recall if you've mentioned what editing software you use. In PS Elements this action takes only a couple of steps. If you have one of the more robust, popular programs, there will likely be a You-Tube video or short written tutorial to help you for future. Good luck!

Jim-Pops recently provided a png for exactly that purpose - so that others could use the result, and keep the file for future.

Very handy!

It certainly is possible, Ron. It's tedious, though. I use GIMP for this purpose.

It's not a great job because I was working with a tiny file but if it serves your needs, use it.
