Last night I watched "2012" on Netflix (or Prime). A global disaster is destroying most of civilization. I found the special effects to be absolutely amazing. I doubt it was even considered for an Academy Award back in 2009, but the effects are dazzling. As for the action, it seldom slows down.

I recognized Stephen McHatty - the pilot. I first saw him in "Centennial," a very good miniseries from 1979. He's still acting and looks about the same. I'm sure you recognized Woody Harrelson from Cheers. It took me a couple of minutes to realize who he was.
I can't stand these (lunatic, unrealistic) "special effects" movies which suspend the laws of physics. Aficionados of such really believe the "special effects" are possible.
