Paint Shop Pro #2

I posted about a month or so ago about a problem with Paint Shop Pro 2020 with the inability of being able to delete the last picture in a folder without locking up PSP. I was using the trash can icon on the bottom to delete after entering the "quick review" window. I subsequently ran into a yellow screen issue after a massive Microsoft update each time I opened PSP. I would not only have to shut down PSP, but would also have to shut down my computer to get everything back to normal. This yellow screen problem obviously became the over-riding problem. This problem was obviously seen by others as per some comments by Bill-de. Corel took control of my computer and were able to make a change or install a "work around" that resolved my yellow screen problem.

I have just gone back to Corel about the original problem of locking up PSP when trying to delete the last picture in a folder. The lock-up actually occurs when the last picture does not actually delete and you try to delete it again. As I mentioned above, I am using the "Quick Review" screen and the trash can icon. I have confirmed that this lock-up does not only occur with any special file or picture, but occurs with any pictures in any folders that you try to delete when it is the last one in the folder. With some difficulty with Corel, I have now clearly demonstrated to them on my computer, with them also seeing it, that this is a definite problem. They indicated that they would pass the problem to the programmers, I assume, and get back to me. They have notified me almost every day that they are still working on the problem. I can certainly get around this problem, since I am very familiar with it, by going to Windows Explorer and deleting the picture there.

I am now trying to delete pictures when in the edit mode and thought that I had done so, yesterday, but found upon closing PSP that they were actually not deleted in Explorer. And yes, opening PSP again, the pictures all reappeared. Google does not apparently address this - all I could find was "deleting an object in a picture" with PSP. The only reason that I was trying to delete them in "edit" mode is due to the fact that I found a way to zoom in on all of them to see the birds better to make the decisions on which pictures to delete and be able to switch between them because of my poor eyesight and the fact that the birds were far away in droves.

Should I not be even trying to delete files in PSP?
Have any of you observed these problems?
Should I be using a different photo editing program? I only know PSP, apparently only somewhat!
Please let me have any comments that you may have on PSP and my concerns.

I has PSP 2019. I have not noticed this problem. I, however, use windows explorer, Faststone image viewer or raw processing to delete photos. PSP is only for final touch up or advanced editing of tif files.

I've used PSP for many years and never delete photos within the program. If I want to delete a photo, I delete it from the file where I have it stored.

PSP is hit or miss in reliability. I would purchase Affinity Photo. One time charge. These days it is about $25. Automatic, free updates, similar to Photoshop it use, and very reliable. Loads of tutorials and a lot of capability. Doesn't catalog your photos but I have always used my own system. Good luck.

I don't think your first statement is true. I have been using PSP since the Jasc days and always upgrade to the latest version. I use it on regular basis and I have never experienced a problem. It is highly reliable.

I view all my images, raw and jpg, in Irfanview. From there I can delete or open in an external editor. You can store three external editors, so in my case I can open in PS Elements, Corel PSP, or On1.

The solution may be a simple matter of going into the settings menu and adjusting the program's behavior to meet your needs. I realize many people have deep apprehension about altering default settings, however if one takes notes on the changes one makes, it is easy enough to take a step back and undo any of those changes. In worse case, a complete reset to default settings is always an option.

Ditto. Delete outside PSP.

Many thanks to all of you - Fetzler, Deb Ann, TusconDave, n4jee, Bill-dee, Rook2c4, revhen, and any others that comment, for your comments.
From your comments, from my experience, and some of the comments received from Corel, I now feel that Corel never intended for files to be deleted in PSP. I will continue to do some deleting in PSP, since it is convenient for me to do so, and since I think I now know what I can do and what I can't do.
