Sorry but I can't help but ask what is a Bell and Howell cube.

I bet you mean those cubes for slides - not flash cubes.

Thanks. It looks similar to a Koday slide tray.

All these youngsters that do not know what a slide tray or cube really make me feel old! I have a dozen or so trays, many cubes and even some really cool leather slide cases with many slide drawers. Also, many many pages of negatives I am waiting for an easy way to convert neg to pos from digitized color negatives.

There isn't an easy DIY way. It's tedious no matter how you do it. I got a little Wolverine scanner that converts slides and negatives to digital. It's 20 megapixel. It works fine but takes patience to feed the film in.

I have been digitizing many slides from up to 50 yrs old using my Nikon D7200 and a 40mm macro with a rebuilt bellows I found at an estate sale. This is very much like the rigs used in the DAM book (Digital Asset Management). That is a great source of info on digitizing many types of slides, negatives, etc. I just bought one of the print scanners for my sister which does stacks of prints up to 8-1/2 x 11 (also good for all those documents) to do the 10 or so boxes of old prints from generations of relatives. The scanner does BOTH sides of prints so all the written notes on the backs are also done. I digitized about 200 old polaroid prints as well. The Epson can scan up to 1200x1200, although most of the prints are not really that good, due to being done by various old point and shoot small cameras. My aunt Omega did have an interesting way of shooting various grave markers in cemeteries but she did always take a snap of the entrance so we know where she was!

That's all well and good, but how is your post helping me sell my slide cubes?

You need Adobe Lightroom CLASSIC CC and Negative Lab Pro software (plug-in for Lightroom).

Check it out here: https://www.negativelabpro.com

Beyond the software, you need either an appropriate flatbed or film scanner, OR an interchangeable lens camera with a macro lens of some sort, a color-correct photo quality light source, and suitable film holder.

Either way, you're likely to require five or six different strategies for cleaning your film. Dust-Off, StaticMaster de-ionizing Brushes, a Giottos Rocket Blaster, Ilford Antistaticum Cloths, and PEC-12 Film Cleaner with PEC Pads are what I use. Each is useful for a different purpose.

The link includes TONS of information on conversion techniques and gear. The blog is especially helpful.

If all that sounds daunting, I understand. But it WILL (potentially) provide professional grade results if you learn to do it right.

You might try a local photo club on Meetup.com.

I can't remember when I last saw a Bell & Howell cube style slide projector! I'll bet most who had one are in the same situation you are, having digitized their slides (or having an intention to do so).

I have an old Kodak Ektagraphic III AT professional grade projector from 1983... It has seen very little use.
