In the springtime, Potter’s Marsh, south of Anchorage along the Seward Hwy, is host to hundreds of birds. Terns seem to be among the most numerous and tend to hang out close to the road and offer opportunities to photograph them. This handsome fellow was very patient while I took photos of him. Nikon P900, handheld. Best viewed in download.

Thank you very much. I think it’s a greatly underrated camera, unfortunately. Probably because it only shoots in JPEG. But it has nice color rendition and the lens is quite sharp. And yes, it really brings far away things in close. I’m glad you liked the photo.
Very well done. Nice image.

Nice shot, and without the zoom you might have missed it. Many times with my bird shots the zoom makes it work. My 4h canon zoom sx5 sx20 sx40 sx60.

Thank you, and you’re right. My other choice would have been to take the shot and then crop it, but with the small sensor, heavy cropping makes for poor image quality, so the zoom makes for a handy means of bringing a subject in. Glad you liked it.
