To all of you who have replied to my question, thanks.I called the customer service @ RRS & asked what kind of plate I would need for my camera& they were kind enough to tell me.I then purchased it from Adorama as I had points that I could apply to my purchase. So my dilemma solved!

Really Right Stuff has a website and well as a customer service number.... Don't you think they would be the best people to answer your question(s)???

Only IF you had plenty more money to spend with them

That’s a totally ridiculous statement about a company that makes great products and offers excellent customer service.

The RRS plate is nearly double.

Was I wrong to assume this very expensive ball head came with a quick release plate? All my other less expensive ball heads came with release plates.I sent an email to Adorama asking if they forgot to send it.They are checking on it.What do u think,I will have to spend more money on the release plate, yeah so do I.

You may want to get an L-Bracket that is specific to your camera. It will work better than the generic plate for fastening the camera to the head. If you got the lever type clamp on the RRS BH55, then you're pretty much limited to Wimberley and RRS plates and L Brackets. If you got the screw type, then just about any Arca-Swiss style plate will work. There are small differences between manufacturers that do not allow 100% interchangeability with a level clamp that expects the same exact dimensions on the plate.

I have a couple of RRS ball head and one small tripod. Unlike Gitzo, RRS gives you generous clearance for quick release plate. I just use any generic one that cost a few dollars each. They all fit.
