We had "the best water around" when I was a kid. Folks drove in just for a drink. Nice image.

Very nice. We had running water, but did have many thirst quenching drinks from these.

The last place to find these around Chicago was in the Forest Preserves along the city border. I remember them well. (Pun intended!)

Yes they are apple trees. This old homestead is slowly disappearing. My guess is that it is tied up in some

Grew up on a farm without running water. We had three of these hand pumps to bring water up from underground cisterns. I wish I had pictures of them. They all went away, along with the windmill, when running water come along in 1963. One of these was a very large cistern and pump used to fill the livestock tank when calm days stalled the windmill.

Loved going to my grandparents farm. They had one and the toilet was an outhouse.

I remember them. And outhouses, too. I can still recall the first time I used a flush toilet. Ages me, doesn't it. My grandson doesn't belive me.

I didn't see many hand pumps in my youth, but I sure do like this image. Very artistic.
