Since we are self-quarantined, it is good to look back at better days. These random photos were from a trip to Catalina Island off the coast of California. They include shots of Avalon, the only real town on the island. The island is very hilly with very little area other than the cove where Avalon is situated for people to live. There is a strict limit on the number of motor vehicles permitted on the island. If you want one, you need to wait until one is removed. Most people use golf carts for transportation. There is a herd of approximately 150 bison on the island. They were introduced in 1924 by a movie company for a film that ended up not being filmed on the island. The herd grew to about 600 head before a conservancy begin removing them in a partnership with the Lakota tribe. The Airport in the Sky is a really challenging airport. It sits on the highest terrain on the island and it is a short runway. Land short and you smack into the mountain. Land long you go off the other end.
