It was first discover in December of 2019, hence the new name now of Covid 19, that 19 is for the year it was discovered. The Chinese were seeing a lot of pneumonia cases with no other symptoms, which was not making sense and after rigorous testing they discovered it was this Corona Virus. Apparently there are certain receptors which ear-mark a virus as man made and this one does not seem to have any of those micro cellular markers in its make up. Therefore, it is believed to be a natural virus, despite the rumors.
