So, I was doing some research with regard to a Sony camera warranty.

If you buy a New Sony camera USA model, (checked S/N# for validity) with included original warranty, from a seller (Ebay, online auction, etc.) vs an authorized Sony dealer, will Sony honor the warranty?

Getting mixed feedback, most of it gray area (no pun intended).

Thanks

Sony would be the best source for that information. Why not ask them.

I have my doubts, so I'dc do as Mac said: Ask Sony.

I do know, from painful first-hand experience, that Sony will not honor a warranty on any open box item.

Factory warranty only applies to "Original Purchaser" and only if bought from an "Authorized Retailer". This direct from Sony, factory warranties do NOT transfer from any camera or lens manufacturers.

There possibly could be a loophole, if the original owner did not register the camera and you have the paperwork, Sony may have no way to determine that you were a second owner. Just guessing!

Appreciate the feedback...

There seems to be one hell-of-a-lot of new sealed, Sony USA cameras (with original docs) being purchased
on Ebay. So, if a person buys from the original owner, registers the warranty card, and is unable to get warranty service because he/she didn't buy from an "authorized dealer," that's a head-scratcher for me.
The only caveat I can see is if Sony wants a copy of the purchase receipt with registration.

Sony asks for a receipt for warranty service.

As does each and every camera and lens manufacturer. That is the proof of purchase needed to verify warranty start dates!

Not the point, Empty Shooter. My comment was an answer to someone else. Now go play with your dying Nikons and let the big boys chat.

Your evident ignorance is pathetic. Keep on displaying it though, all get to see it that way!

I don't trust Sony after they dropped their e-book readers and any and all support for them.

I don't trust them from sad experience. I bought a brand-new a6000 from a reputable big box store, back when it cost almost $1k. Sent it back to Sony 4 times in the first year, still wasn't working correctly (after they replaced the shutter system TWICE). Had to kick and scream before they would replace it. The replacement, which they insisted was a brand-new a6300 didn't work right out of the box. Sent it back and will never ever
buy a Sony product again.

I hope you don't, either.

Sorry to here that story. After 35 years with Nikon I sold most of my Nikon collection and switched to Sony, after 5 months now it has been fantastic, luv the autofocus, it’s light years ahead of Nikons.

Well, believe it or not, it's true. Caveat emptor.
